Hans Gatt wins the 2010 Yukon Quest!
At about 1:30 this afternoon, Hans Gatt and 9 dogs crossed the Yukon Quest finish line in downtown Whitehorse, annihilating the previous record time. His time of 9 days and 26 minutes was 23 hours faster than the previous record!
The is the normal view at the finish line – a lot of people waiting 🙂 Hans was reported on the radio as being expected around 1:00 and well over 1,000 people were there well before that to greet him.
At 1:27, Hans’ team nears the finish.
Does that look like the face of a man who has travelled 1,000 miles by dogsled in the past 9 days? The prize money of about $40,000 would help put a smile on a fellow’s face!
Everyone wants a picture with the winners!
At 4:18 Hugh Neff nears the finish line. The second-place team was that of Lance Mackey but I wasn’t there to get any photos.
A salmon steak for the athletes.
Hugh talks to the press about the incredible conditions that led to the new records being set.
