A morning at the Carcross cabin

Cathy and I went to the Carcross cabin yesterday, to show it to a young couple who are interested in buying it. Cathy doesn’t want to sell it, and going there makes her a bit sad. We had a lot of good times there (among many other events large and small, we met there), and before I met Cathy I said that I’d never leave. But our lives have changed – there’s a whole lot of world to see yet.

No longer invincible, my biological clock is now running, and realistically I have perhaps 25 years to see it all. It was made clear late last winter, though, that I (like everyone else) may have a lot less than that. When I see a good deal on a trip to the Galapagos Islands or Tibet, I want to be able to go, not just dream about going “some day“. Selling a cabin that we never use since moving to Mary Lake would make that possible.

The view from the kitchen window yesterday was as wonderful as ever (see past views here). I do miss that view, there’s no arguing that point. Always impressive, and different every day.

The view from my Carcross cabin

How many hundred photos have I taken along our driveway since 1996? I don’t know the number, but this view as we drove back to the South Klondike Highway shows you the “why”.

There was a small bit of blue sky just north of Carcross, making the frost even more beautiful as we headed back to Whitehorse to get our major Xmas shopping done.
