Meeting, wandering & shooting

On Friday, the Association of Yukon Communities held their quarterly directors’ meeting in Mayo, way up in the central Yukon. Now you might think “how boring!” but it’s actually not – there is a lot going on and a lot of work being done to make life in the Yukon even better. The photo above shows the meeting underway, in the gym of the beautiful new recreation centre.

These meetings are held in a different community each time so that we all get to see the other communities and get a better sense of the issues they face. I added another project to my list, joining a new committee formed to prepare an AYC position on TILMA, the hugely controversial Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement that the Yukon has been asked to sign.

As part of that discovery of new places, some of us headed over to Keno City after the meeting adjourned just after 3:00 pm. Seen above is Dawson City mayor John Steins taking a picture of Whitehorse mayor Bev Buckway at the famous signpost on top of Keno Hill. John braved the narrow, steep road up in his beautiful ’85 Jaguar XJ-6 – Yukon 4-wheelin’ at it’s finest! 🙂

Below is the Yukon River at Yukon Crossing at 9:10 last night. I sped past this scene, then made a u-turn, parked at a pullout and walked a block along the narrow guard-railed road to get this shot. A worthwhile detour indeed.
