On the road – Dawson City, Yukon

Here it is near the end of Day 3 of the trip already. We’re not off to a great start but things seem to be improving. The first day in Whitehorse was so cold that we cut the city tour short because many people had just had enough of it and wanted a warm hotel room and dinner.

Yesterday we escaped from frigid Whitehorse (8°C) and headed for Dawson City. It’s a long day (the longest of the trip), a few people are sick, and one lady got injured when she fell at our lunch stop, so arrival at the Downtown Hotel was most welcome.

Today was much better – we went up the Midnight Dome and the weather was very nice for much of the day (it hit 21). The afternoon was free time to explore Dawson (or to rest more for those who don’t feel well). In a few minutes we’re meeting in the lobby and going over to Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Casino for some entertainment.

It was nice to see both the beautiful new boat Klondike Spirit on the Yukon River, and the Palace Grand Theatre open. Tourism isn’t looking very healthy in Dawson, and having 2 major additions is huge.
