Digging out at the Carcross cabin

My poor little cabin needed some attention, and the sunshine forecast for today tipped the scale in favour of going to Carcross instead of the kitchen job. The driveway wasn’t as bad as I was afraid it would be, but it will take a lot of work to get it into good shape. All I managed today was to get it passable with a 4×4 – including the Subaru 🙂

The first thing on the agenda upon reaching the cabin was to get a “webcam” shot to update that page.

The biggest hazard in neglecting the cabin in the winter is that a heavy snow accumulation could bring it down, so clearing the roof was today’s big job. I use a roof rake to clear the snow off the metal roof, then throw it over the fence so it will (some day) melt and drain away from the cabin.

While I was shovelling the deck, the moon went down behind Mount Grey.

If Kathleen was at her cabin instead of in Juneau this would have been her view this afternoon!
