Back to the land of the living

That was some holiday. I got sick two days before Christmas, and am just now getting back to normal. Cathy says she’s never seen me so sick – I can usually ward stuff off pretty good or at the worst have a couple of down days.

We had intended to get our 2-year-long Whitehorse house renovation project finished before 2007 arrived, but that was among the many things that got delayed. With curtains hung in the bedrooms yesterday, though, the project is a handful of hours away from being finished. A bit of trim cutting and paint and we’ll be in celebration mode! Then we have to decide what to do with the place. Sell it, or re-mortgage it to build the new Carcross place? Prices in Whitehorse could well keep climbing for a while yet, so selling is probably not going to be our first choice.

Because I haven’t been capable of hauling water and firewood, the cabin hasn’t seen me much in the past 3+ weeks. I was there to start clearing the snow 2 days ago, and managed to get the roof cleared, but now I have a massive job of getting the snow away from the cabin, which wasn’t designed to make such things easy. This picture shows just how bad a mess it is right now. I’m going back this morning, and figure it’ll probably take me a week to get it cleaned up.

Getting sick cost me a Caribbean cruise a few days ago. The company we worked for this past February invited us back to do Alaska cruise promotions for 10 days on the Maasdam from February 3-13, but I’m so far behind I just can’t get away. Oh well, who wants to lay out in the hot Caribbean sun when I can be skijoring with the fur-kids? 🙂
