The wood furnace maxed out

We’ve found the practical limits of using the wood furnace as our sole heat source for the house. It’s -38°C this morning (that’s -36.4°F), and we had to turn on the oil furnace to get comfortable. That’s about the limit for the cabin as well – which is a much smaller stove in a much smaller space.

That’s the cabin below on a cold morning in March 2007 – it was -37° when the photo of the outside was shot from across the lake the next afternoon. In the first photo, the extension cord is handy for plugging in the truck later, and the toilet paper is on the table so it doesn’t get a build-up of frost in the outhouse 🙂 Jasper, the cat on the bookshelf, was never a big fan of winter mornings there!
