Winter light

We’re now in the most extreme part of winter. It can go from being very dark and ugly to being stunningly beautiful in a very short period.

The first photo was shot from my desk at the travel agency on Friday at 09:53 am, with ice fog caused by temperatures in the -36°C area cutting visibility to a block or so. Ice fog settles into valley bottoms, and that’s where downtown Whitehorse is located (the Yukon River is 2 blocks behind the building seen in the photo).

Sunrise today, though, was gorgeous – the photo below shows the view from my home office at 09:58 am, 7 minutes after sunrise. Our extinct volcano, Golden Horn, lights up beautifully!
