The “Motorcycle Ride For Dad” program

Have you heard about the Motorcycle Ride For Dad yet? Its mission is to raise funds in order to save men’s lives by supporting prostate cancer research while at the same time raising public awareness of the disease. See ridefordad.ca for much more information about rides across the country.

Prostate cancer is a disease that affects one in six Canadian men and the families that love them. It kills 4,300 men a year.

If detected early, ninety per cent of the time prostate cancer is successfully treatable, but over 800,000 Canadian men currently have it and don’t know it – early detection is the key to saving lives. Men need to talk about it. The Motorcycle Ride For Dad gives them a reason to.

Net proceeds from Motorcycle Ride For Dad events across Canada are distributed by the Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation on behalf of the Motorcycle Ride For Dad, to benefit the region where the funds are raised. In 2009 the organization distributed 109% of rider donations to fight prostate cancer research and awareness.

In the Yukon, the first Motorcycle Ride For Dad was held in 2010 – 92 riders brought in an amazing $11,200 in donations! My hope is that we can greatly increase that this year.

If you’re a rider in the Yukon, please join us on June 18th, and if you’re not a rider, please support the ride by sponsoring me or one of the other riders.

If you’re a rider with a Facebook account, please also join us at the Whitehorse Motorcycle Riders group!
