The latest version of me: Cruise & Vacation Specialist

Every since I was old enough to have control of what I do, I’ve been re-inventing myself on a fairly regular basis. Maybe I get bored easily, maybe I just want to do everything at least once. My list of past jobs is varied, to say the least, and most of those jobs required a fair bit of learning.

The latest incarnation of Murray, a Cruise & Vacation Specialist with Expedia CruiseShipCenters, may be the most fun I’ve had yet, though. I have flashes that I should have done this 25 years ago, but then I decide that the progression has been a reasonable sort of evolution – with a couple of exceptions, one job has led logically to the next.

The learning curve on the new job seemed near-vertical for a while, but I’ve reached the point where I’m comfortable now. The photo below shows a small portion of the certifications I’ve gotten over the past few months – courses that range from a couple of hours to about 40 hours, from destinations, hotel and resort chains, cruise lines and professional travel agent organizations. This is a forever-learning career, and I’m working on more courses pretty much every day.

I started this post at home, but am now finishing it at the cruise office. The next photo shows the drive in an hour ago. This was shot where the Alaska Highway goes by Meadow Lakes Golf Course, at 09:35 (11 minutes before sunrise).

My office as seen a few minutes ago – it’s a comfortable place to work.

I shot this last night as I was getting ready to lock up and leave. With the office manager off sick (very sick), I’m unofficially Acting Manager (I open and close the store and am always here), so the hours are even longer than usual and much more regular. I’ve got a big Mexican wedding to quote on tomorrow, so I’m off and running now.

Thanks to all of you who have asked in the past few days about how things are going after losing Jasper – I really do appreciate it.
