The Google camera car in Skagway & Whitehorse

The past few days, I keep meeting the Google camera car as it makes its circuits gathering photos for Google Earth’s Street Views. I saw it in Skagway on Tuesday and got the photo below as it was coming out of the Liarsville Road (okay, I missed part of it – it was a surprise and I was driving 🙂 ). Since then I’ve seen it on the Alaska Highway, at the airport and at the SS Klondike.

While the technology is very cool, I think the Street View concept is rather silly – who on earth will care what the residential streets of Riverdale (or a suburb of Atlanta, or a line of shops in Frankfurt) look like?? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, see Wikipedia. [archived by The Wayback Machine]
