The current “active” bookshelf

I’m slowly getting things organized in the new house. There’s still a lot to do, but my office and library are pretty much set up so I’m fully functional. Beside my desk are a couple of glass shelves for books that I use regularly or am working on in some form. These shelves currently hold:

  • Flying North South East and West: Arctic to the Sahara – a new book on both my “to-read” and “to-review” lists;
  • The Certified Diver’s Handbook: The Complete Guide to Your Own Underwater Adventures; getting ready for diving in New Zealand next month;
  • Wings of a Hero, a recently-discovered book (by Sheila Reid) about pioneer pilot Wop May;
  • Whitehorse & Area Hikes & Bikes – thinking about next summer;
  • Aurora: A Celebration of the Northern Lights is an excellent, different sort of book about the Northern Lights – it’s here waiting to be reviewed;
  • Bulldozers Come First, published in 1944, has lots of information about US Army Engineers on the Alaska Highway that I haven’t seen anywhere else, and I’m making notes and a rudimentary index for it;
  • The Body Sculpting Bible for Men is helping me figure out what I need in the way of a home gym;
  • Photoshop CS3 for Windows and Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide) is the primary reference for my new software;
  • the Alaska Atlas and Gazetteer is my most-used reference book for Alaska topographical information;
  • and a handful of other reference volumes…
