Sunny in Skagway? Road trip!
Cathy and I are both still a bit jet-lagged and not completely over the colds we picked up a couple of weeks ago, but when I saw sunshine being reported for Skagway for a few days, we decided that a road trip would be a great way to celebrate living where we do. Europe was incredible, but the Yukon is where we both belong 🙂
There was some wonderful, thick hoarfrost along the South Klondike Highway, but I didn’t make any stops until we reached Carcross, where the steaming water was irresistible.
Cathy’s not well enough to go for a walk in this brisk air, so we settled for a latte and pastry before poking around town. There’s some heavy work going on over at the Railway Dock, but the Skagway News doesn’t seem to have commented on it. Perhaps the piling problem at the Ore Dock a couple of months ago has prompted some work here as well.
With the very cold weather, all the waterfalls along the highway are at least partially frozen, and we made a few stops on the way up the hill.
The amount of water flowing from the small fissures in the granite is always surprising.
Summit Lake was so pretty, surrounded by snow.
We made our usual stop at Tutshi Lake, where the water was still steaming with the temperature at -7°C
The dogs always enjoy a run here, and I always enjoy taking pictures.
That was a wonderful way to get back into our version of reality. Today, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done around the yard and on the cars. Back at ‘er! 🙂
