Review: KÜHL Resistor hiking shorts

Back on March 9th, I posted a review of a pair of KÜHL Revolvr hiking pants that had immediately become my favourite pants for the backcountry when full leg coverings are appropriate.

While Cathy and I were in Europe, I got an email from KÜHL asking if I would like to try out a pair of their shorts as well. I definitely would, and chose their Resistor Lite Chino Short with an 8-inch inseam (they’re available with 8, 10, and 12-inch inseams), in the Desert Sage colour. In the description on the website, “Designed to feel weightless” immediately caught my attention, then “Soft as cotton yet tough as nails” and “Superior stretch with rebound to maintain form and fit” cemented the decision.

The first photo is from the KÜHL website.

This look at the inside of my pair shows not only the construction, but also the “instruction sheet” printed there 🙂

My first big day wearing them was a few days ago at Summit Creek. They were so comfortable! The “weightless,” “soft” and “stretch” terms used on the website were all big factors in that. They will be my go-to backcountry attire from here on whenever shorts are the suitable choice. They had already become my favourite shorts for going into town, because they’re much more than hiking shorts – they look great anywhere, with or without a belt.

I was a bit leery of the cell phone pockets (one on each side). Although the location is extremely handy, I didn’t think they would be secure. That turned out to not be true – even on a rough trail, my phone never budged. Given KÜHL’s attention to every detail, I should have known that would be the case.

As these shorts will be doing a whole lot of travel, I tested their suitability for washing and drying in a hotel or RV sink. Dead simple because of their weight, and they dry fairly quickly.

One final comment – the KÜHL honey waffle that arrived with them was very good 🙂
