Promoting the Yukon – sorta
It’s always interesting to see the Yukon show up in advertisements as a background in various ways. Doing some shopping online this morning, I came across Canvas People, one of the biggest companies in the turn-your-photo-into-canvas-art business. Their home page right now (see the screen shot below) features a photo of Emerald Lake. While it’s not captioned, I think there are a lot of people out there (particular Alaska cruise ship passengers) who will scratch their heads trying to remember where they’ve see that lake.

Of the millions of photos that the company could have used to show the type of image that’s worth turning into canvas art, they chose one of the Yukon – I think that’s very cool.
The use of images from this region in advertising probably reached its zenith during the early days of the Alaska Highway – during construction and the first few years after it opened to public travel. I’ve got many such ads in my collection.
