“Better Choices, Better Health”
There’s a conference coming up in Whitehorse in April 2010 that I want to tell you about. The Yukon Wholistic Health Network is bringing Dr. Gabor Maté in to present a series of talks and workshops based on his best-selling book When The Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress.
To quote from the conference Web site at YukonHealth.org [the website is gone but has been archived by The Wayback Machine]:
“Stress is ubiquitous these days — it plays a role in the workplace, in the home, and virtually everywhere that people interact. It can take a heavy toll unless it is recognized and managed effectively and insightfully. Western medicine, in theory and practice, tends to treat mind and body as separate entities. This separation, which has always gone against ancient human wisdom, has now been demonstrated by modern science to be not only artificial, but false.”
This brief video, combined with the fact that I’m working too much and sleeping too little, have convinced me to register – making better choices is a skill that many of us need to learn: [that video is no longer available, but here’s an 11-minute video by Dr. Gabor Maté]
