A hike at Twillingate, then drive to Musgrave Harbour
Friday, June 19th, Day 22 of our trip and the 15th day in Newfoundland, was an easy day. I had a 10:30 Zoom meeting scheduled with my coach for the clinical trial I’m participating in so had some time to kill in the morning. I filled that with another hike to Batrix Island, then after the meeting we drove to Musgrave Harbour.
It was cloudy and 7ยฐC when I headed out, with possible drizzle forecast. Even with that flat light, though, this is beautiful country.

The dandelions were very happy today ๐

Although I had seen a high set of stairs the last time, I didn’t realize that this trail was a loop. This time, I noticed the sign and walked toward the stairs. That took me by one of the casual gardens that are everywhere.

The stairs.

Looking down to Back Harbour, some gulls had found a new best friend ๐

Looking back down the stairs.

The 360-degree views up top are wonderful. While I was there a couple of fellows from Ontario arrived and we chatted for a while about our travels.

Heading back down the other side of the island.

When I got to the bottom and went to check the time, I noticed that I hadn’t turned my Strava on. If you don’t got it it didn’t happen, and as I had both time and energy left I turned it on and continued along the beach road to a viewpoint where I’d seen various RVs. That turned out to be called Luther’s Bluff, which is rented out as a camping site. No services but the best view in Twillingate.

Back at the RV, the meeting went well except for Starlink cutting out several times due to trees overhead. I’ll have to keep that in mind for the next meeting in two weeks.
From Twillingate to to Musgrave Harbour is only 120 km, and the rain arrived while we were about halfway there. We decided to see if the Banting Memorial Municipal Park right on the beach had a spot for us. They did, and this was their opening day of the season.
It wasn’t a particularly beach-walk-friendly afternoon, but how could I not go anyway? The beach was cold and windy but magnificent.

Our site in the nearly-empty park.

The next day we would continue on to Terra Nova National Park where were had a reservation for two nights. I hoped to find better weather in the morning so I could get a better look at that beach before leaving.
