Technology to keep teens safe

There are lots of methods of using technology to keep kids safe, from very visible monitors of various kinds to the “secret” ones such as software that lets you find out what your kid (or spouse) is doing online.

GPS fleet tracking has been around for a few years now, and that technology is now being promoted as a way to keep track of what your new driver is up to. Among other things, you can see where they are and how fast they’re going.

Luckily my kids are grown and on their own so I don’t have to make decisions such as whether or not to use tools like this. With most of them, I think the answer would be that I could do without them, but the GPS feels different. I think this is one tool I may have used. Even if you trust your kids completely, are they letting someone else drive? And what if they break down and phone but aren’t really sure of exactly where they are? It’s not spying then, is it?
