Review: KÜHL Revolvr hiking pants
It’s been many years since I’ve posted a product review. I get occasional requests by manufacturers to review various products but none have caught my attention since I did a couple of motorcycle jackets. I’ve always been curious about high-end hiking pants, though, so when I got an email from KÜHL last summer, I replied that I would like to take then up on that offer, and chose the Revolvr style.
By the time the pants arrived, our very early winter had also arrived, and the pants laid on the bed in the guest room until about 3 weeks ago. The first time I wore them, though, I was hooked, and I wear them for everything now. They are so comfortable! I got the full fit ones for comfort, but they’re also available in a tighter tapered style.
I first wore them to hike the Hospital Ridge trail, but quickly realized that they’re much more than hiking pants, and I’ll be buying another pair for our trip to Iceland and Greenland in June. They’re extremely light, a blend of cotton, nylon and Spandex that’s breathable and quick-dry, and it has just a bit of stretch which was noticeable when I kneeled down.

The pants can be machine washed in cold water – that was a major factor in my decision to get them. Although KÜHL says they can go in the drier on low heat, I just hung them and they dried quickly.
The next two photos were shot on the Yukon River trail at the “blue bridge” south of Whitehorse.

Details are important, and these pants are extremely well detailed. Even the “stealth” cell phone pocket location was really well thought out. Cathy and I went out for dinner last night, and when we sat down at the restaurant I thought I had left my phone at home. Not until I took my pants off did I realize that my phone was in that pocket.

Next are a couple of photos of the pants “in the showroom,” from the KÜHL website. They currently sell for $109 USD, $155 CDN. Our dealer in Whitehorse is Coast Mountain Sports, and I went in on Friday to have a look – they have an excellent stock of them.

KÜHL is very proud of their heritage – “Born in the Mountains” – and uses every opportunity to tell people about it. Even the insides of the main pockets have information about the product and the company.

The final thing I want to show you is the cookie (“honey waffle”) that came with the pants. I’ve been saving it and am eating it now as I write this. What a Kühl idea! 🙂
