On the “road” – approaching Glacier Bay

It’s just after 0500, and the MS Amsterdam is a couple of hours from our rendezvous with the NPS rangers who will guide us around Glacier Bay for most of the day. It’s 55 degrees with a light misty rain and a cloud ceiling of perhaps 4,000 feet – not a great day but not too bad either.

It’s been an excellent cruise so far. The Amsterdam is a very different ship from the Costa and Royal Caribbean liners we’ve been on – smaller and more classic in every sense of that term, most noticeable in the decor. The service everywhere and the food are the best we’ve experienced. The passengers on this special charter aren’t your “usual” HAL passengers, and that no doubt is part of the reason that we’re having so much fun (they’re much younger on average, so much more acive).

At 55 cents per minute I’m not going to be blogging much, but I’ll post a complete review when we get home. I also thought that I’d be posting photos, but the service is too slow to even hook up to my server to load them. Oh well, I should go downstairs and wake Cathy up so we can start watching for whales 🙂

Edit: I added the photo below, showing Cathy at Glacier Bay, when I got home. I’ve written up the entire cruise and posted the story at my YourAlaskaCruise.com site.
