This Morning’s Northern Lights Show

Watching the aurora borealis is such an amazing way to start the day. I often check the sky when I get up in the morning, but didn’t this morning – my brain is just too busy with other stuff. Just before 6:00, Cathy yelled that there was a good show going on, so we got dressed and went out to the back deck. The temperature was a reasonable -18°C (-4°F).

It was a very good show. Just a single band, but very bright and active.

I got a few shots in the back yard, then fired up the car and while it was warming up, took a couple in the driveway. The lights were fading, but I hoped that the activity would return as I headed down the Alaska Highway.

The lights were barely visible at the Yukon River Bridge. Although I got this shot of the Northern Lights with the bridge, I didn’t even stop at my favourite spot overlooking the Yukon River.
