Cash bonanza in Alaska this year
The annual Alaska Permanent Fund check that most residents of Alaska receive is a major event in the state’s economic calendar. This year, it will be even more significant, with record high checks being issued (about $2,000 per person). Travel agents, car dealerships and appliance stores, among many other retailers, always work hard to attract some of that cash.
Now the State Legislature has approved another $1,200 per person “resource rebate” for Alaskans. That means that a family of 4 will be getting checks totalling almost $13,000 in the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see what effect that has on the economy – it seems safe to expect that Alaska Airlines will be a large beneficiary as usual, due to their flights to warm places!
