Being a tourist in your own area

You’ve all surely seen articles about being a tourist in your own town. I’m constantly amazed by the number of people who really have no idea what their town or area has that attracts visitors. In the Yukon, Whitehorse particularly, the percentage of such folks seems to have increased over the years. Is that a result of more and more people coming here with “a job” as their #1 priority? For many years “a great lifestyle” was #1, and people seemed to get out more.

On Tuesday (June 21st), Cathy and I drove to to Skagway for a flightseeing trip over Glacier Bay National Park with a new operator in town. On Saturday, I went out on the cruise-ship-oriented “Saddle & Paddle” excursion at Spirit Lake Lodge just north of Carcross. Although they don’t market to locals, here’s another opportunity to get out and have a quiet afternoon surrounded by mountains and water and flowers.
