Back on the beach at Half Moon Cay, Bahamas
November 17: Our day at Half Moon Cay last week was excellent, though marred by there being 2 ships, overcrowding all the facilities. We were looking forward to seeing it with fewer people.
This is a typical stairway on the Carnival Destiny We still find the interior of the ship to be dark and uninviting, in an old-Holiday-Inn sort of way. This photo was shot at 04:30 am – as I was getting up, there were a fair number of people all dressed up, just finishing their night 🙂
At 08:15, the big transfer boats started shuttling from 7 decks right below us.
I find the ship to be very attractive, but Cathy hates the trademark flying funnel.
This is the channel that’s been cut from the sea to the shuttle pier.
The roof of the first aid station provides a good view of the welcome area of Half Moon Cay, where the shops and excursion sales are located.
I couldn’t resist this memory shot 🙂
The single thing on my list for the day was getting photos of the horse ride. Mission accomplished. The ride is very short for the $69 they charge. I also shot a video of the horses but at 40 cents per minute for slow Internet access on the ship, won’t be posting that until I got home.
The far end of the beach is lovely and wild – and nobody goes there, making it even better.
My only company was this little guy.
We went to the shuttle pier at 2:15 to avoid the last-minute crowds. It didn’t work – it took exactly 60 minutes to get from the start of the shuttle lineup to a non-crowded stairway on the ship. This was the security lineup on the ship.
A last look at the shuttle pier area at Half Moon Cay.
I’m very excited about our destination tomorrow – I’ll be donning scuba tanks for 2 dives in one of the top dive locations on earth – Grand Turk, British West Indies.
