Coldest place on the planet?
Apparently that’s what some weather media Outside are saying. In Whitehorse it was only -40°C this morning, which is bloody cold for November, but in January is no big deal. There was a term on the Environment Canada site this morning that I don’t recall seeing before, though – “Fog Deposting Ice”.
Cathy’s Tracker was frozen up this morning, so I drove her to work. The roads were pretty quiet (and icy), but business was fairly brisk at Home Hardware and Canadian Tire – I imagine extension cords and portable heaters are selling well. I got a little heater that’s now under the hood of the Tracker in an attempt to cure what ails her.
Outside Whitehorse, folks are reporting temps into the low 50s – Stacie and her huskies have got -47 at last report. I actually enjoy this sort of temp more than the minus-20s, just because it adds to the Yukon’s “wild” reputation. But in the past few minutes a brisk south wind has started, so we’ll be out of the deepfreeze shortly, I expect.
