Promoting the Yukon – sorta

Itโ€™s always interesting to see the Yukon show up in advertisements as a background in various ways. Doing some shopping online this morning, I came across Canvas People, one of the biggest companies in the turn-your-photo-into-canvas-art business. Their home page right now (see the screen shot below) features a photo of Emerald Lake. While itโ€™s not captioned, I think there are a lot of people out there (particular Alaska cruise ship passengers) who will scratch their heads trying to remember where theyโ€™ve see that lake.

Of the millions of photos that the company could have used to show the type of image thatโ€™s worth turning into canvas art, they chose one of the Yukon โ€“ I think thatโ€™s very cool.

The use of images from this region in advertising probably reached its zenith during the early days of the Alaska Highway โ€“ during construction and the first few years after it opened to public travel. Iโ€™ve got many such ads in my collection.
