The start of the Yukon Quest 2017 sled dog race
Yesterday was the start of Yukon Quest 2017. It was a long, exciting day, and I’m posting some photos from the hundreds I shot, with few captions. It was a short night and we’ll be off to Skagway and Haines early this morning, so at this point there’s no time, but I’ll fill in more information when I have time. That will probably be in Haines tonight or tomorrow morning. [Edit: I never did get around to it]
I dropped my guests off at the mushers’ area at 09:00 – this is the best place to watch the race preparations, have a close look at their equipment, and perhaps meet some mushers, crew, and dogs.
After a good lunch, I drove the group out to the Takhini River, to the home of a friend of Jeremy. It provides great views from high on the bank, or up close down on the river ice.
Some of my guests took the easy way back up off the river 🙂
At 5:20 it was rapidly getting much colder, so we headed back to our warm hotel in Whitehorse.
